In order to keep residents living in containment zones safe, the police have decided to press drones into service. These drones would keep a check on the unnecessary movement of people.
The movement of residents, unless there is some emergency, is strictly prohibited in the containment zones. Residents of these areas have been warned through various modes that they should stay indoors or else the police will take immediate legal action against them.
The drones would click the pictures of violators and they would be warned of action through text messages.
“Mani, son of Subash, resident of house no. B/2/920, Chawani Mohalla, Ludhiana. Through drone footage, you have been seen violating social-distancing and other Covid norms in the containment area. This is a warning message. Future violation will result in penalties and legal action. Follow the Covid guidelines and stay safe.” This text message was sent by the Division 4 SHO to the violator.
According to information, about 52 violators have been caught through the drone cameras. The drones are also keeping an eye over the houses of people who have been isolated or asked to be in home quarantine.
Additional DCP 1 Deepak Pareek said in two containment zones that fell under Police Division 2 and 4, drones were being used to keep an eye over violators. Initially, a warning would be served, but a repeated offender will have to face the music.
He said though police nakas have been set up in the containment zones, the drones were proving added advantage to keep people inside their houses, so that they remain safe.
