The Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University, as per the authorisation given by the Syndicate dated May 30, has given extension to all MPhil and PhD candidates whose submission fell under the lockdown period. The extension has been given due to the lockdown and prevailing uncertain situation in the country owing to the Covid-19 outbreak. This decision of the university has come as a big relief for researchers who were in a tizzy on account of their submissions.

The MPhil and PhD students of various departments and research centres have been given extension up to December 31, 2020, whose maximum period of submission of MPhil and PhD dissertation and thesis prescribed under relevant rules and regulations has expired or expiring soon amid the Covid crisis.

Further, the PhD students of various departments or research centres will be given extension up to December 31, 2020, whose maximum period of submission of PhD synopsis falls during the Covid-19 pandemic period.

Also, the PhD research scholars, who are covered under the golden chances, have been given extension up to December 31, 2020.

The MPhil and PhD students of various departments and research centres have been given fee exemption for the submission of MPhil and PhD dissertation, thesis or synopsis from the date of expiry of regular prescribed period due to the Covid-19, because of the imposition of the lockdown.

“My submission was in April but I couldn’t submit it. I was upset due to the prevailing situation as three years of my hard labour was at stake. The university’s decision has come as a much-needed relief to researchers like me. Now we can work with ease and make submissions accordingly,” shared a research scholar from Ludhiana.

Panjab University Senator Dr Inderpal Sidhu said: “It is a very timely and wise decision taken by the university since a number of research scholars were upset due to the undue delay in their submissions owing to the Covid-19 outbreak. They have now been issued a clear-cut deadline by the university with which they can move as per the current instructions and make their submissions accordingly,” he added.
